Email Settings

Server settings for email accounts hosted on our servers, for any phone, tablet or computer.

Our Mail Servers

For mailboxes hosted with us only. Choose IMAP if you read your email on more than one device.

IMAP (recommended)

IMAP keeps all your messages on our mail platform, so your mailbox looks the same on every device and in webmail: messages keep their read, flagged and replied-to status. Ideal if you use email from more than one place.

POP3

POP3 downloads your mail to one device. Most mail programs then delete it from our servers, although you can choose to leave a copy on the server, which helps if several machines need the same messages.

Port110
Alternative port6110

Sending email (authenticated SMTP)

All hosting customers can send email through our SMTP servers free of charge. You sign in with the username and password of your POP3 or IMAP mailbox, so only our customers can use the service.

Secure connections (STARTTLS / TLS)

Turn on STARTTLS (recommended) or TLS in your mail program for both the incoming and outgoing servers. Your password is then sent encrypted when you connect. We strongly advise turning this on.

Mail storage rules (POP3)

To keep our mail platform fast and reliable, POP3 mailboxes follow these rules:

  • Read messages, in any webmail folder, are removed automatically after 30 days.
  • Unread messages are removed after 90 days.

If you need to keep messages on our servers for longer, ask us about IMAP, where these rules don’t apply, or keep backups on your own machine.

iPhone and iPad

Apple devices support TLS, but it isn’t obvious how to turn it on for an account first set up without SSL.

Incoming server: in Settings, open your mail account, go to Advanced and turn Use SSL on. The port changes to 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP): change it back to 143 (IMAP) or 110 (POP).

Outgoing server: tap back, then SMTP under Outgoing Mail Server, then Primary Server. Turn SSL on and change the port back to 25 (or 2500 or 587).
